The crisp edges and deep, velvety surfaces of silkscreen, provided even further purification and simplification of Chase’s urban landscape oeuvre. Mentored by the legendary silkscreen printer, Alexander Heinrici, a close friend in the early days of Soho, Chase produced 12 landmark editions from 1976 through 1981. All the work was performed entirely by Chase working alone in his Greene Street studio. Utilizing only hand cut film, each image required approximately 30-40 screens. The screenprint Goya” was a “Print of the Decade” selection in “Art News” in 1980.
